Stripey Awnings of Pittsburgh
I absolutely love all the stripey awnings in Pittsburgh. I could take a thousand pictures of them. They bring to mind Mary Poppins, retro candy, and the circus. I took this on the South Side, Fall 2006.

I took this at The Warhol in Pittsburgh, Fall 2006. It’s an unintentional self portrait. That’s me reflecting back in the center left balloon. These pillows are full of helium, and a fan sends them tumbling around the room. It was my favorite part of the exhibit, by far. I still want to someday stage a production inspired by 99 Red Balloons.

The wind and rain were whipping all night, and I think I heard hail at one point. Something squeaky outside my window kept me awake for a while. It was hard to get out of bed this morning, as I felt as though I were floating in a houseboat on the sea. The air is thick and oceanic today. 43 degrees, with a light rain. It’s unbelievable how 40-degree weather feels so temperate after weeks of near or below freezing. I know it’s a tease, though. Tomorrow, we dip back into the 30s for the immediate future. The arrival of spring is going to be cause for mad celebration here — I can feel it already.
Tomorrow I will be flying to New York for a long weekend with my friend who’s having the wedding shower-like party. I’m in charge of games, and they are going to be a hoot (I hope). We’ll spend some time playing with makeup and hair ideas for the big day, strolling through the city, maybe seeing a show if we can get cheap tickets. I am glad that this friend is so nearby now.
