I have been very much enjoying the city lately. Last Friday, I took one of my ESL students (visiting from the Czech Republic) to Shedd Aquarium. The place itself was gorgeous, and the walk over, with the sparkling lake as the backdrop, was beautiful. Tomorrow I’m taking another Czech student to the Frank Lloyd Wright home and studio. Due to my long-time fascination with architecture and attraction to Wright’s design values, I am really looking forward to this excursion.
This weekend, I’ll be meeting the three of these visiting students for dinner and a jazz show at the beloved Green Mill, which I am pretty sure is my favorite music venue ever. I’m excited to show it off to them. This is the first time they’ve been to the US, and they all love the city. They say that most of all they are surprised by the genuine friendliness of Americans and our fascination, curiosity, and appreciation for foreigners.
Last night, I had an incredible multi-course dinner with Cheryl and friends at copperblue, where the awesome and personable chef knows her and gave us some special treatment and extra dishes to try. Today on Michigan Avenue I bought the dress I’ll be wearing in my friend’s wedding in May. What a change to be in a place where almost every store is the flagship, or one of the best, with lots of room and plenty of variety.
Here’s a shot of the skyline I took from the plane on my last trip to Pittsburgh, in early March. The lake was crackled with ice for miles and miles.
